The Best Teen Writing of 2011 is a collection of short stories written by teen authors. The literary pieces in this book can cater to anybody's tastes. The different types of writing included in this book are: poetry, personal essay/memoir, science fiction/fantasy, dramatic script, journalism, persuasive writing, humor, and short and normal length short story. These pieces cover a wide range of topics, including love, friendship, family, divorce, death, eating disorders, and anxiety, and vary in length from one page to forty pages.

Opinion:

I was skeptical to start reading this book, as I usually don't read anthologies, but I was pleasantly surprised as I started to read it. The pieces featured in this book are amazing, especially because they were all written by teens aged 18 and under. You can tell that each teen author is skilled at their craft and loves writing; this is truly reflected in each well-written story. I had a hard time putting this book down and when I did, returning to it was the only thing on my mind. As I delved into each piece, I cried, laughed, trembled and hurrahed alongside all of the beautifully crafted characters. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone, young and old, and urge them read this wonderful collection of stories written by the next generation of authors. Not recommended for readers under 12, due to mature themes, swearing, and violence in some stories.
