Books vs. Movies

I used to feel strongly that books were always better than the movies- but recently I have begun to appreciate movies a lot more. Of course, there are always some TERRIBLE movie adaptations (Eragon, anyone?), but for the most part movies tell the same stories, just through a different medium. My biggest problem with movies is that when I reread books later, I always picture the actors instead of the character I had mentally created before.

Let's talk about books!

My favorite book is Tamar by Mal Peet. It is not only an exciting mix of spy story and realistic fiction, it has a huge twist at the end! Any book that keeps me guessing until the very end is a sure favorite.

Do you have to finish every book?

I agree with the majority- you definitely don't have to finish every book you start! You may stop reading because the book is boring, or because the information is outdated. Sometimes books are too time-consuming for your schedule, or you can't relate to them. Whatever your reason for not finishing a book, putting it down allows you to use your reading time more efficiently. There is only so much time you can devote to books, so they should be the most informative or enjoyable books you can find!

what to recommend?

It's been awhile since I read it, but I think Airman by Eoin Colfer would be good.

Why is Young Adult Literature important?

I think that informational texts and literature are equally important. Newspapers help students become aware of what is going on in the world, while literature can start important conversations about human nature and the future.

summer reading suggestions

Anything by Khaled Hosseini is great, my favorite is A Thousand Splendid Suns. For a mystery, I would try Tamar by Mal Peet. Not an official mystery, but it is about a girl following clues. It's also half spy book:)
