SIX MINUTES WITH TOM BERQUIST:

Today LitPick welcomes new author Tom Berquist for Six Minutes with an Author! Tom’s book, Stalking Los Angeles is not your typical coming-of-age story. This book will inspire readers to take action in protecting our American lions.

Growing up in Northern Minnesota, Tom dreamt of becoming a game warden. Tom’s goal is to inspire the reader to want to help protect our wildlife in general and to donate to help build a wildlife corridor between the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area and surrounding mountain ranges. He has dedicated 25% of the sales of his book to wildlife preservation.

How did you get started writing?

I starting writing poetry as a child, had a career writing advertising copy and marketing “fiction” before I wrote Stalking Los Angeles, my first work of serious fiction.

Who influenced you?

A few of the many were: William Carlos Williams, Shel Silverstein, Somerset Maugham, Jack London, Ernie Pyle.

Do you have a favorite book/subject/character/setting?

Yes, City of Thieves by David Benioff. World War II dramas. In City of Thieves, I loved Lev, who showed huge courage during the siege of Leningrad.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to be an author?

Pick a subject that fascinates you and find something to say about it that inspires others.

Where is your favorite place to write?

Anywhere, but a quiet place with a sunlit window connects me with my highest creativity, although busy places help me connect my creativity to people.
