This book is an adventure about a youth from Italy and his family who had fallen on hard times. Young Zaccaro was bought up by a cruel padrone (a master) who had little children work the streets as musicians in the Manhattan area in New York City. Zaccaro and two other children from Zaccaro’s village were brought to New York City during the winter season. His padrone was a harsh man who didn’t help him with his struggles. When he is given a chance to change, does he take this golden opportunity? Read this book to find out more.

Opinion:

A Bandit’s Tale was a very adventurous story for me; it had me on the edge of my seat, guessing what would happen next. The whole story was truly eye-opening with the twisted truth of what was happening in the streets of New York City during the influx of a great many immigrants.

The characters throughout the story all had some part to play in Zaccaro's journey. All the characters made me believe that I was walking alongside Zaccaro. The plot shows how many activists shaped the city. The book also had a twist of romance, which is always a good part of a great story. I would recommend this book to other teens interested in historical fiction along with those who love historic thrillers.
