In The Trouble with Magic, two siblings, Barbara and Rick, set out on an unintended escapade while their parents are away on a business trip. A bad smell of cooking cabbage entices them to leave and find a remedy for the odor in the house.  A sale on a single bottle at the General Store begins their adventure.  While on their journey they learn lessons in magic as well as life, all while meeting a wizard and his dear friend, the sea serpent.

Opinion:

This was the first book written by Ruth Chew that I have read.  The story line and adventurous plot kept me interested, and the characters were so realistic they were jumping off the pages at me.  It was also excellently illustrated really bringing out the story with each page turn.  I would recommend this book to anyone interested in anything magical.
